AU Optronics Corp. announced that it is honored with the 2010 WorldStar Packaging Award 2010 for its two industrial packaging designs – “Green Packaging Structure Design for LCD TV” and “Adjustable Packaging Structure for LCD Open Cell” after receiving Green Packaging Design Award from Taiwan's Environmental Protection Administration for three consecutive years.

The WorldStar Packaging 2010 competition attracted 278 entries from more than 30 countries around the world. All entries must have already won recognition in national or regional packaging design competitions to be eligible for contesting Worldstar Packaging Award. Recently AUO's innovative packaging design has received Green Packaging Design Award from Taiwan's Environmental Protection Administration for three consecutive years and the Gold Award of Packaging Star in China in 2009. Having stood out among contestants from worldwide, AUO's dedication to green efforts and its leading industry position in green packaging design are further endorsed with the recognition from 2010 WorldStar Packaging Award.
AUO's innovative packaging design, equipped with the features of material saving, easy to recycle, and low pollution, brings significant achievements on energy saving and carbon reduction to AUO's green logistics. As a result, the CO2 emission in transportation in 2009 was 14.3% less than in 2008. And taking the examples of transporting 26” and 32” panels, the container loading rate has even improved 50%.
AUO's WorldStar award-winning packaging design, Green Packaging Structure Design for LCD TV, adopts 100% recycled paper and paper pulp to replace common EPS cushion design for LCD TV. The paper cushions could also be reused as accessory racks. Also, the new design could save more than 50% of storage space. Compared to the current packaging design in the market, AUO's green packaging design brings efficiency and convenience in terms of transportation, container loading rate, and recycling.
The other award-winning packaging design is Adjustable Packaging Structure for LCD Open Cell which features the adjustable packaging structure to achieve the benefit of sharing and saving material. The design is made of plastic material, which is lighter and easier to reuse. Aside from being able to accommodate content of different sizes with manual adjustments, the structure remarkably reduces the costs of packaging material, and the amount of package waste, increasing container loading rate by nearly 120%.
