exhibit the latest cutting-edge green innovations of green panels at FPD
International 2008, from Oct. 29 through 31 in Yokohama, Japan. The AUO Green
Innovations exhibit will include a wide array of innovative energy-saving
technologies, such as “Eco Plus” Full HD TV panel. This technology saves both in
terms of energy and materials used. In addition, AUO’s ultra slim 46-inch LED
panel is less than 10 mm thick; and 8.9-inch mini notebook PC application panel
saves up to 45% in terms of power consumption.

According to the four major
principles of Energy Saving, Material Saving, Environment Friendly and Lean
Design from AUO’s green innovations, AUO will show a series of green designs
from 8.9-inch mini notebook PC application to 46-inch TV panels, offering
clients and the consumer market green panels with ultra slim, energy-saving
features. The main theme of AUO this year goes together with that of the FPD
International 2008 theme: “Displays Trigger a Lifestyle Revolution ~Ambient
“Eco Plus” Design: power-saving, weight reduction, slim design and material saving
AUO has further improved the green technology in its reputed green TV panels. The 「Eco Plus」design of 46-inch green TV panel reduces weight by 30%, thickness by 30%, and brings power savings of up to 30%. The package efficiency also rises by 66% due to the reduction of packaging space and delivery weight. Combined with AUO’s focus on Green Logistics, transportation efficiency is improved, and the impact on the environment is decreased. Another green panel to be shown is the ultra slim 46-inch Full HD TV. With its built-in LED backlight, the thickness is less than 10 mm, which makes it fashionable in addition to green.
46-inch Full HD LED Panel with 200,000:1 High Dynamic Contrast
AUO’s 46-inch RGB Full HD LED-backlit panel with local dimming technology offers high dynamic contrast, which improves the contrast ratio to above 200,000:1. The luminance depth is up to 10 bits and the high color saturation is up to 133% NTSC. Power-saving on average reaches 50%. This technology can save more energy and at the same time attain a high image quality.
New power-saving technology on notebook PCs and portable application panels
The strength of using LED backlights is they are eco-friendly and have a slim design. AUO will also exhibit its 8.9-inch WSVGA green panel for mini notebook PC applications with power-savings of up to 45%, therefore enhancing the battery life of the mini notebook to around 6 hours. Another 13.3-inch notebook PC application panel, also with LED backlights, saves 45% in terms of power consumption. It can extend the battery length of notebooks to an additional 1.5 hours.
Another AUO focus at FPD International 2008 is its 10.1-inch WVGA green panel with LED backlight and driver IC. The LED-backlit technology, CABC (Content Adaptive Backlight Control), can adjust the backlight dynamically according to the environment luminance, which saves the backlight power by up to 50%. The driver IC technology, APSD (Advanced Power Saving Display), can simplify the design and reduce it to one source driver IC. The power for the driver IC is reduced by 40%, which is more eco-friendly than conventional LED-backlit panels. This is likely to be the new design choice for future portable consumer electronic products, such as portable DVDs or digital photo frame displays.
