The LTPS technology is known for its high resolution, narrow bezel, slim and light, and power-saving features. It is a key display technology for small and medium sized mobile products. AUO Kunshan fab boasts leading one-stop production strengths, with manufacturing process including front-end TFT Array, CF and in-cell touch process, Cell process in the midstream, and back-end Module process. The fab will produce products such as high-end smartphone displays, in-cell touch panels and notebook PC displays. The size of the glass substrate at AUO Kunshan fab is 1500x1850 mm, with production capacity initially planned at 25,000 units per month.
"AUO Kunshan fab's one-stop production strength is capable of offering timely and complete solutions to customers, assisting them to develop products in the fastest manner to keep in line with the rapidly changing market demand" said Paul SL Peng, AUO's Chairman & Chief Executive Officer. "AUO has long devoted itself to the development of LTPS technology and its production. We have matured experiences in mass production and possess numerous critical patented technologies, and are fully confident of achieving mass production smoothly and raising yield rates quickly at the Kunshan fab. The fab will effectively increase AUO's supply and market share in terms of high-end capacity, boosting LTPS development in China."
AUO Kunshan fab is the Company's first front-end LCD fab in China. Its important strategic significance fully exhibits AUO’s ambition to further develop the Chinese market. AUO Kunshan fab has summoned over 400 technical talents from Taiwan and China. The team has demonstrated high execution capacity and efficiency since the project's inception. It took just a little over four months from the first batch of production equipment being moved in to the first display being lighted. Paul SL Peng stressed that AUO Kunshan fab will ride on the success and capitalize on its accumulated technology and manufacturing strengths in the hope of becoming the fastest LTPS fab to achieve equipment move in, light up, and mass production, setting a new industry record.
AUO would like to especially extend gratitude to the Kunshan City Government and the Kunshan Economic & Technological Development Zone for their full support to AUO Kunshan fab from planning and preparation to equipment move in and production, so that the fab could operate smoothly and efficiently. The Kunshan Economic & Technological Development Zone is an important industry base for China's optoelectronic industry. AUO's engagement in the next generation LTPS technology development and production in Kunshan will further facilitate the development of the local supply chain and create a new momentum that drives innovation and technological upgrade for the optoelectronic industry in Kunshan.
